DEPARTMENT OF FABRIC AND APPAREL SCIENCE
The Fabric and Apparel Science Department offers B.Sc. (Hons)
& (Pass) degrees along with an opportunity to further education
in this course at Master's & Doctorate levels. The undergraduate
syllabus prepares the students in the fields of Fabric Science,
Apparel & Textile design, Indian Textiles, Pattern Making
and Apparel Construction. The course contains extensive laboratory
work and portfolio development. These subjects along with
rest of Home Science subjects make it an ideal course for
multifaceted learning & professional development. The students
can go for post-graduation in Fabric & Apparel Science after
graduation. The new curriculum of M.Sc. has been designed
keeping in mind the needs of the industry as well development
of self as an entrepreneur. The Master's course exposes the
students to subjects like Dyeing and Printing, Pattern Making,
Sketching, Advanced Fabric Science, Statistics, Research Methods,
World Textiles, Fashion & Retail Management & Quality Control
in Fabric & Apparel.
At the end of the first year the students are placed in the
industry for a two month long internship. The course culminates
in an exhaustive research and a Dissertation presentation.
The students develop portfolios of their learning at the end
of the year, based on all laboratory work undertaken. The
department organizes lectures, seminars and workshops for
bringing in the latest from the industry. Students of B.Sc.
(Hons) and M.Sc. are encouraged to participate in all departmental
activities. The department helps the college Fashion Show
Team that has always been ranked amongst the best. The post-graduate
department is in close professional relationship with IIT
Delhi, NITRA1, NIFT2, WSC3 & AEPC4 for purposes of research
& development of new products using latest knowledge from
industry.
JOB PROSPECTS
Our students get placed in the industry as Designers, Merchandisers,
Sampling & Production Supervisors, Quality Control Supervisors
in dyeing & printing or garment production units. As faculty
members in various universities and institutions dealing with
textile and apparel / fashion design. As event managers, choreographers
for fashion related events. As fashion journalists/reporters,
fashion photographers or in fashion advertising in the media
world. As curators for textiles in museums and as entrepreneurs
in textiles and apparel industry.
