1. Internal Assessment:

The internal assessment scheme is being implemented in the University since 2003-2004 in both undergraduate & postgraduate degree courses.

25% marks in each Theory paper are assigned for internal assessment & the remaining 75% for the annual examination. The 25% marks of internal assessment are calculated as follows:

(i) 10% weightage is given to House examinations (half yearly examinations) to be conducted by each college, preferably in the beginning of 3rd term or end of 2nd term.

(ii) 10% weightage is given to written assignments/tutorials/project reports/term papers/seminars etc. A total of four assignments/project per paper will have to be done in the entire year.

(iii) 5% weightage is given for regularity in attending lectures and tutorials as follows:

More than 67% but less than 70% — 1 mark

70% or more but less than 75% — 2 marks

75% or more but less than 80% — 3 marks

80% or more but less than 85% — 4 marks

85% and above — 5 marks

2. Attendance

Regular attendance of students at Lectures, Practicals and Tutorials is expected throughout the session beginning from the first day of college. Every student should have a minimum required attendance of 75% in each subject, separately in theory, practical and tutorial by the end of each academic year. In case of absence from classes, the student herself will be responsible for giving the reason for her absence directly to the lecturer concerned. Any student who has been ill, should submit a medical certificate for the period of illness to the Class Advisor immediately on joining the college

Students who are admitted late to the Institute will be responsible for making up the attendance. The attendance will be displayed on the notice board at the end of every term. Students can also check their attendance by accessing their home page through OMV card. It is the duty of every student to ensure that she has the requisite attendance. In case of sickness, students will be granted sick leave on production of medical certificate from civil surgeon/registered medical practitioner but this will not affect the rules regarding minimum attendance. Medical certificates will be excluded while calculating credit towards marks to be awarded. Students who do not fulfill the required attendance will not be allowed to appear for the final examinations.

3. Leave

Any student wishing to absent herself from the Institute must submit an application on the prescribed form available from the Institute office in advance. If the leave is asked on medical grounds, a medical certificate should be submitted. However, leave sanctioned does not condone attendance. Application for leave on medical grounds for the half-yearly examination days must be made either in advance or on the date of the examination on which the student is unable to appear due to sickness. Application for leave received after the examination is over will not be considered. Applications not made in proper form and not bearing the signature of the guardian/parent will not be entertained.

4. Promotion/Examination

There will be a University Examination at the end of each academic year. Those who pass the Examination will be promoted to the next year. Promotion is regulated by the University rules.

5. Short term courses

Several add on courses are conducted by the Institute for its students to enable them to acquire knowledge & skills in diverse areas. These certificate courses vary in duration from 15 days to 90 days and can be pursued by the students along with their academics. Courses have been conducted on event management, computer aided designing, fashion photography, food product development & marketing and early childhood education.

These have been very instrumental is preparing students to meet the challenges of post graduate studies as well as the industry.

6. Withdrawal

A student who wishes to leave the Institute must apply in writing to the Director with her application countersigned by her guardian/parent. All fees, fines and other dues will be charged up to the end of the Term in which the formal withdrawal takes place. In case a student drops out without such a formal withdrawal, her security deposit will be forfeited and adjusted towards the dues. No claim for refund of security will be entertained later.

7. Removal

The Director has the power to strike off the name of a student who is grossly irregular in attendance or is not amenable to Institute discipline or is guilty of negligence in studies or is unfit for the course chosen by her.

8. Identity Card

Since the entire college procedures are computerized the students are issued an OMV card at the time of admission. This card is valid for the entire period of study in the college & must be brought by the student everyday. It serves multiple functions such as of identity card, accessing home page on the computer to get information on attendance & marks of assignments & issue of books from the library.

9. Notice Board

Students must read the Notice Board at least two times each day. An excuse for non-compliance with any other based on the plea that the notice was not read, will not be accepted.

10. Bus Concessions

Students may avail of concessional bus fare on D.T.C. routes, by obtaining a Bus Form countersigned by the college office. It is valid for one month at a time.

11. Discipline

Strict discipline is to be maintained in the campus both inside and outside the classrooms. At the time of admission every student shall be required to sign a declaration that on admission she submits herself to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the college/University authorities during her studies. The students must note the following :

(a) Cellular phones : Cellular phones must be switched off during classes.

In case, any student is found using cell phone during the class, the same will be confiscated.

Cellular phones cannot be carried into the examination hall.

(b) Regularity : All the students who are enrolled at the institute are pursuing a full time course and are not allowed to undertake any unpaid or paid commitments/assignments outside the college. Disciplinary action can be initiated against any student violating the rule.

(c) Ragging : Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within the premises of the college or any part of the University system or in public transport. Any student or group of students found guilty of ragging will amount to gross indiscipline and shall be dealt with as per University ordinance XVB.

A discipline committee is constituted in the college comprising of senior faculty members who monitor the discipline every day as well as during the various events in the college.

12. Fines

The college believes that academics and co-curricular activities go hand in hand for all round development of the personality. Therefore all the students are required to be present for the various events in the college. Students who absent themselves from the college on Founder's Day, Sports day or during the cultural events shall have to pay the stipulated fine. In case any student is sick, medical leave will be granted on production of medical certificate from a registered practitioner either before or on the day in question.

13. Half-yearly/House Examinations

The half-yearly examinations are held every year in January. Students are required to take these exams seriously as the marks are counted towards the internal assessment marks of the theory papers. These marks are also considered for the choice of subjects to be made in the undergraduate Home Science courses in Honours as well as Pass course.

14. Morning Assembly

The day at the Institute begins with the morning assembly twice a week in the college foyer. It is here that important announcements are made by the Director, faculty members, student's council members etc. Special assemblies are held on important days such as Independence Day, Teacher's Day, etc. It is mandatory for all the students to attend the morning assembly.

15. Advisory System

The Institute has a unique advisory system wherein each student is assigned to an advisor who is a member of the faculty. The advisors meet the students periodically to brief them about important issues. In case any student has any academic or personal problem, she is welcome to approach the advisor. All leave applications of the student must be countersigned by the advisor. The medical certificate of the student, if any, has to be deposited with the advisor.

16. Health

All the students are required to observe rules of personal hygiene as well as routine immunizations. In case any student suffers from specific health problems or chronic health disorders, it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to provide such information to the Institute.

17. Personal belongings

The students are advised not to bring large sums of money, jewellery or other valuables to the Institute. They should be careful about their personal belongings and collect them before leaving. Attempts are made to return the lost property if found by peons, cleaners etc. but the college does not take any responsibility in the matter.

18. Alumni Association

The Institute has an active alumni association bringing together ex-IHEans on a common platform. The alumni are a precious resource of the Institute since they are the ambassadors of the college and are instrumental in building linkages of the college with other institutes, professional bodies and the industry. The alumni are also invited as resource persons for the benefit of the students from time to time.

19. Freeships and prizes

The Institute has provision for granting freeship to the students on the basis of merit and means. The students desirous of availing freeship must collect the forms from the office and submit the completed forms by the end of the first term.

The Institute is constantly in pursuit of academic excellence. In order to encourage and appreciate the efforts of students, several prizes are awarded every year.
