 Welcome
to the Institute of Home Economics, a college of Delhi
University offering both Undergraduate and Postgraduate
courses.
The Institute has grown from a college offering Home Science
Diploma in 1961 to multiple disciplines keeping in tune
with the changing trends in higher education. Since the
Institute has expanded enormously, we shifted to a bigger
and well-endowed campus at Hauz Khas in 2001.
It has been our endeavour to expose our students to the
latest technological advancements. The different departments
of the college have been interconnected by the services
provided by MGRMNET. This enables the students to have
online information regarding attendance, assignments,
examination schedules, results and other information of
the college. The college has a well-equipped library with
latest editions of books and journals. The library has
been fully computerized and the students can search for
books & journals using Online Public Access Catalogue
(OPAC).
As head of the Institution, I am proud to say that the
combined excellence of the educational curriculum, the
realistic values and the commitment of the teaching faculty
has made the Institute establish itself as a leading centre
for women's education. Besides academics, the college
has facilities for community outreach programmes, inter-college
activities, workshops and seminars, public events, sports
and cultural activities.
At present the Institute of Home Economics, a constituent
college of University of Delhi, is offering three-year
Bachelor programmes in Home Science Pass & Honours, Microbiology
Honours, B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry, a four-year Bachelor
programme in Elementary Education, two years Masters Programme
in Fabric and Apparel Science as well as Food & Nutrition,
and One-Year Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics & Public
Health Nutrition. The Institute also has students pursuing
Ph.D. programme in different areas of specialization of
Home Science.
What is it that we at the Institute of Home Economics
offer to our students? It is the overall development of
the students to help them discover their potential and
empower themselves.
